Gary HaagBorn and raised in Colorado, where he studied pre-med, he came to Maine on a whim and never left. Gary began as an apprentice at the Winter Fox in Norway, Maine in 1982. After leaving there, he collected Maine gems and created jewelry as a hobby for 5 years. At this time he decided to seek work from the various jewelry stores in the area. He enrolled in jewelry classes at the School of Arts in Portland, Maine and began visiting local shops to find work. Amazingly, there was work. Next he learned the basics of faceting and gem cutting from Phil McCrillis who was one of the owners of the Mt. Mica Mine at the time. He has been doing gold, silver and platinum work for several stores in Maine ever since.
Today Gary designs, cuts, polishes and creates fine handcrafted jewelry using gemstones purchased from local miners. His love of Maine Gemstones like Watermelon Tourmaline, Amethyst and Aquamarine has served him well. His specialty is making custom, and one of a kind pieces in 14 & 18 karat gold & Platinum for admirers of Maine Gem materials.

Wendy BaileyWendy has been Gary’s apprentice for about 3 years. She has taken to it like a duck to water.
